OpenAI Tests Sponsored Agents and Adds ChatGPT Ads Integrations

September 16, 2026

OpenAI announced advertising updates on September 16, including a US test of Sponsored Agents and integrations with HubSpot and Shopify.

Sponsored conversations

Sponsored Agents allow users who click an advertisement to enter a labelled conversation with a business-sponsored agent. OpenAI says these exchanges are separate from the user’s original conversation and ChatGPT’s independent answers.

The feature is being tested with selected US advertisers. It is not described as a general release.

Tools for advertisers

The announcement also introduces campaign management through an Ads Manager plugin in ChatGPT, AI-assisted copy and imagery, and optional text customisation.

OpenAI says advertisers can review and edit creative suggestions before adding them to campaigns.

Integration rollout

  • HubSpot: businesses can connect ChatGPT Ads accounts to create ads, track performance, and follow up on leads.
  • Shopify: the app is available to US merchants, with expansion planned for September 23 in other markets where ChatGPT Ads operates.

These are announced capabilities and rollout plans. The release does not establish campaign performance or returns for individual advertisers.
