Google Adds Retail AI Insights and YouTube Agent Beta

September 17, 2026

Google announced retail updates on September 16, 2026, covering AI discovery reporting, conversational advertising and checkout integration ahead of holiday shopping.

Available insights and a US beta

Merchant Center’s AI performance insights are now available in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the United States. Google says the feature compares brand visibility across experiences including AI Mode and AI Overviews.

Separately, eligible US retailers can apply for a Business Agent beta within YouTube ads. The proposed experience lets viewers ask product questions while remaining in their YouTube context.

Checkout changes

Google is adding cart transfers to merchant websites and enhanced checkout testing through Merchant Center’s Universal Commerce Protocol integration hub. Analytics are planned for later.

These capabilities are rolling out gradually in the US, with Australia and Canada expected to follow in early 2027.

The announcement combines generally available reporting, a beta and phased checkout changes. Retailers should distinguish those availability stages when reviewing the tools.
