Google outlines ChromeOS support through 2034 and Googlebook migration plans

September 29, 2026

Google’s Chrome Enterprise and Education guidance sets out ChromeOS updates and security patches through mid-2034 as it prepares the transition to Googlebook OS. The document, last updated September 23, has drawn renewed coverage this week.

Device lifecycles still matter

Google says current Chromebooks remain covered under its Auto Update policy. The 2034 timeline should therefore not be read as extending every older device’s individual support deadline.

For qualifying devices whose ten-year support lifecycle extends beyond 2034, Google commits to helping customers transition. Many newer commercial Chromebooks will support migration, but model eligibility and migration details remain pending.

Management comes in phases

The initial Googlebook release targets consumers and does not support domain enrollment or centralized fleet management. Core management capabilities are scheduled to start rolling out in the second half of 2027.

Existing ChromeOS management licenses continue for existing fleets. Googlebook management will use a new licensing structure, with details to follow.
