Uber and ezCater announced on October 6 an agreement for Uber to acquire the workplace catering platform in a $2.3 billion all-cash transaction. Closing is expected in the coming months, subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions.
ezCater supports corporate meetings, events and recurring meal programmes, with ordering and spending-management tools. The companies say its network includes more than 140,000 US restaurants.
Uber plans to combine ezCater’s business catering expertise with Uber Eats and Uber for Business. The proposed benefits include larger restaurant orders and additional delivery opportunities; these are expected outcomes, not completed integration results.
Bookings are distinct from revenue
The announcement reports more than $2.5 billion in trailing-twelve-month gross bookings and average orders above $400. Gross bookings measure transaction value, not the platform’s revenue. The companies describe profitability on a non-GAAP operating-income basis, which should not be treated as a statement of GAAP net profit.
