How to Start and Configure Focus Sessions in Windows 11

October 6, 2026

Focus sessions in Windows 11 provide a timed work period with fewer distractions. Start with a short session to check how the controls fit your working day.

Configure your session

  1. Open Settings > System > Focus.
  2. Set the session duration.
  3. Choose whether to display the timer, hide taskbar badges and flashing, and turn on Do not disturb.
  4. Select Start focus session.

Use the quick-start option

Press Windows + N, choose a duration in the calendar and notification area, then select Focus. Alternatively, open Clock > Focus sessions to choose a duration and whether to include breaks.

Check the result

Confirm the timer appears if you enabled it. With Do not disturb selected, notifications are silenced; open the notification center to review them. Windows notifies you when the session finishes, and you can end it early.

If Do not disturb was already enabled before the session, it remains enabled afterward. If Focus is unavailable because Clock was uninstalled, reinstall Windows Clock from Microsoft Store.
