Apple’s Busy October: Siri AI Is Live, and M6 Macs Are Next

October 20, 2026

Apple’s October has two stories running at once: a software one that has already shipped, and a hardware one landing on October 28. The first is confirmed. The second is based on reporting on what Apple will show.

Confirmed: Siri AI shipped with iOS 27

Apple began rolling out iOS 27 on September 14, with Siri AI as the headline feature. It is a beta rollout for English-language devices, with a dedicated app, personal-context search, app actions and access to online information, and Apple says usage limits may apply. Apple confirmed at WWDC that the new Siri builds on Google’s Gemini models, run through Apple Intelligence. Reported coverage says more languages, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, are due in October.

  • Hardware requirements: Apple Intelligence needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
  • Region limits: the EU is excluded for now, and China is not expected to get it at the same time as the US.
  • Beta status: behaviour and availability may change.

October 28: a second hardware wave

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that Apple will hold an all-day launch experience for media in Los Angeles on October 28. The expected products are a touchscreen MacBook, an M6 iMac, an M6 MacBook Pro and a new iPad mini. macOS 27.1 is also scheduled for the end of October. Separately, Apple said in September that a Mac Studio with an M5 Ultra and 512 GB of memory is coming in late October. Treat the exact lineup as unconfirmed until Apple announces it.

Where to be skeptical

  • “Beta” matters. A beta assistant with usage limits is not something to build a business process on.
  • Rumoured specs shift. Features and dates leaked before a launch often change.
  • Pricing is a question mark. With memory costs rising across the industry, do not assume last year’s Mac prices.

What IT admins should check

  1. Review MDM controls for Apple Intelligence and Siri features, and decide your policy before users find the toggle.
  2. Check data-handling terms for any feature that sends content to a cloud model, especially for regulated data.
  3. Hold Mac refresh purchases for a week or so if you can; the lineup may change within days.
  4. Test macOS 27.1 on a pilot group before broad rollout.
