Googlebooks Are Here: Android-Based Laptops from $899

October 21, 2026

Google’s Googlebook, a laptop category built on an Android-based operating system, is now on sale. Five models from Acer, Dell, ASUS, HP and Lenovo opened for pre-order in September, with US availability from October 4. This is a first-generation platform, so the buying questions are different from a normal Windows or ChromeOS refresh.

The five launch models (US prices)

Model From Chip Display
Acer Googlebook 14 $899 Intel Core Ultra Series 3 14″ 2.8K OLED touch
Dell XPS Googlebook $999 Snapdragon X Elite 13.4″ 2.5K touch
ASUS Googlebook 14 $1,299 Intel Core Ultra Series 3 14″ 2.8K OLED touch
HP Googlebook 14 $1,299 Snapdragon X Elite 14″ 2.8K OLED touch
Lenovo Googlebook 15 $1,299 Intel Core Ultra Series 3 15.3″ 2.8K OLED touch

All chips have NPUs rated at 40 TOPS or more. Base memory is 16 GB, with 32 GB options on some models. Google claims up to 14 hours of video playback and 16 hours of web browsing; treat those as vendor figures until independent tests arrive.

The software pitch

  • An Android-based OS with ChromeOS-style windowing and browser features.
  • Phone integration, including Android 17’s “Continue On”.
  • A Linux environment running in an isolated pKVM-based hypervisor.
  • A promise of 10 years of automatic updates, with quarterly feature drops.
  • Pre-order bonuses included 12 months of Google AI Pro and 3 months of YouTube Premium.

Availability

The US launch date was October 4, followed a day later by the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia. Canada was not mentioned in the launch coverage reviewed here, so check local availability and pricing before planning a purchase.

Where to be skeptical

  • New OS, new risk. App compatibility, peripheral support and driver quality are unproven at scale.
  • Management is unclear. The coverage reviewed does not detail enterprise management, MDM, or security tooling. Ask vendors directly.
  • Ten years is a promise. Update commitments only count if they are delivered consistently.
  • Memory costs. With DRAM and SSD prices rising across the industry, entry pricing and configurations may shift. See our earlier note on the memory crunch and PC prices.

Who should care now

Education, kiosk and phone-centric users are the obvious fit. For most businesses, a small pilot is the right size: test your web apps, VPN and identity setup, printing, and support workflow before committing to a fleet.
