Sony brings QSSR AI upscaling to standard PS5 consoles

October 1, 2026

Sony announced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) on October 1, bringing AI-guided image upscaling to standard PS5 consoles. The technology comes from Project Amethyst, Sony’s graphics collaboration with AMD.

First games receive an additional option

Sony says Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei are receiving patches today that add QSSR as a graphics option. The company plans to make the library broadly available to PlayStation developers.

QSSR combines a streamlined neural network with an implementation tuned for PS5 hardware. Sony describes improvements in fine detail and image stability.

PS5 Pro retains a separate tier

Sony continues to position PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) as its highest-quality solution on PS5 Pro. QSSR support is being added by individual games; the announcement does not establish automatic availability across the entire PS5 catalogue.
