AWS Details Maryland Facility for Fastnet Subsea Cable

September 17, 2026

AWS has provided further details about the Maryland infrastructure planned for Fastnet, its subsea cable linking the United States with County Cork, Ireland.

Amazon’s article labels the update September 17, 2026. The cable was originally announced in November 2025; this is an infrastructure update, not a newly operational connection.

What the Maryland building would do

Amazon plans a small, unmanned Power Feed Equipment building near the landing point. The company says it would supply electricity to the cable and pass signals into existing land networks.

According to Amazon, the facility would neither store data nor use water. It describes the building as distinct from a data center or cable landing station.

The wider project

Fastnet is expected to become operational in 2028, with a design capacity above 320 terabits per second. AWS says the route would add alternative paths for cloud and AI traffic across the Atlantic.

The capacity and resilience benefits remain planned characteristics of the project, rather than measured results from a live service.
