How to Set Up Azure Service Health Alerts

October 2, 2026

Azure Service Health alerts help your team receive notices about service issues, planned maintenance, and advisories affecting your environment.

Before you start

You need read access to the target, write access to the resource group storing the rule, and read access to an associated action group.

Create the alert

  1. In the Azure portal, open Service Health.
  2. In Service Issues, select Create service health alert.
  3. Choose the subscription scope. Under Condition, select services, regions, and event types.
  4. Under Details, choose a resource group and a clear alert rule name.
  5. Under Notify me by, configure recipients. Use Advanced Options if you need an existing action group or additional notification actions.
  6. Review the configuration and select Create.

Microsoft recommends selecting all services and regions so coverage follows the environment. Service Health alerts do not cover Resource Health events.

Verify notification delivery

Confirm the rule appears under Health alerts. For an action group used by Service Health, set its region to Global.

In Monitor > Alerts > Action groups, open the saved group and select Test. Choose a sample and notification types, run the test, and confirm both its status and receipt. This tests delivery, not a real outage.

Complete any email verification prompt before testing. Microsoft requires new email receivers to verify a one-time passcode within 30 minutes of saving the group.
