How to Schedule a Chat Message in Microsoft Teams

October 5, 2026

Schedule a Teams chat message for a time that suits your colleague’s working hours. These steps cover the desktop experience.

Schedule the message

  1. Open an existing conversation with the intended recipient.
  2. Compose the message and select Actions and apps.
  3. Choose Schedule message.
  4. Select the delivery date and time, then choose Continue.
  5. Select Send to finish scheduling.

The message will send automatically at the selected time.

Check and change it

Review the pending message and its scheduled time before leaving the conversation. To change the text, hover over it, select Edit, make your changes, and select Done.

To reschedule, select Edit and the down arrow beside the scheduled date and time. Choose a new time, then select Continue and Done.

Cancel delivery

Open the message’s More options menu and choose Delete.

For a first test, schedule a harmless message in an agreed test conversation and confirm its arrival. Scheduling controls when a message sends; it does not guarantee when someone reads it.
