Export an Azure resource group to obtain an ARM JSON template of its current configuration. Treat the result as a starting point for infrastructure code that needs review before deployment.
Export selected resources
- Sign in to Azure portal and open the resource group.
- Select the checkboxes beside the resources you want. Use the checkbox beside Name to select all.
- Select Export template from the top menu, then ARM Template. The left-menu export option includes the entire group.
- Review the generated template. Include parameters is selected by default; clear it only if you plan to author your own parameters.
- Download the export and open it locally for inspection.
Verify before reuse
Check export warnings and confirm the expected resource types and properties appear. Review hard-coded values, API versions and missing password parameters before planning a deployment.
Export can fail, does not support Azure Data Factory resources, and has a 200-resource group limit. To retrieve the original deployment template instead, open the group’s Deployments, select a deployment, then Template; later changes are absent.
