A $63 billion financing arrangement for Anthropic’s future AI capacity remained a leading technology story on October 27, following the partners’ October 26 announcement. Bank of America, Blackstone, Citi and Morgan Stanley are backing a structure involving Broadcom technology.
A vehicle buys hardware and leases it
The partners say a newly formed special purpose vehicle will purchase Broadcom XPU accelerators and networking equipment for lease to Anthropic. Deliveries are expected to start in calendar 2027 under an existing strategic compute-capacity agreement.
Different layers of financing
Bank of America, Citi and Morgan Stanley are arranging first-lien financing. Blackstone supplies the committed second-lien portion. Broadcom will provide residual-value support to the vehicle equivalent to the first-lien amount, according to the release.
The number describes a structure, not revenue
The US$63 billion headline is financing for planned deployment, rather than hardware already delivered, recognised revenue or an equity investment in Anthropic. Execution depends on equipment, infrastructure and commercial terms. The release does not establish the future profitability of the leased capacity.
