AWS ends new RES adoption, with final-release support through September 2027

September 29, 2026

AWS is ending development of Research and Engineering Studio on AWS (RES). From September 29, 2026, the software is unavailable for new adoption, and AWS will not support customers who start using it after that date.

Existing environments keep running

Version 2026.09 is the final release, with support through September 30, 2027. Earlier versions retain their own support deadlines. AWS says critical-issue fixes continue for releases still within their supported life.

RES runs as open-source software in the customer’s AWS account. Deployments will continue operating after support ends, but maintenance then falls to customers or their partners.

Transition options

AWS lists self-management, partner support and managed alternatives, while warning that migration requires changes.

The change does not affect underlying services including EC2, EFS, FSx or Directory Service. Amazon DCV development and support also continue.
